MEMORIAL DAY AT WOODSTOCK CITY PARK 2011

Hope you're having a wonderful Memorial Day and remembering all of our vets and soldiers for serving and many for giving the ultimate sacrifice so we can be free.  It's a beautiful day here in Georgia and our little town came out in full force to honor our heroes.

One of our veterans of WWII giving ME a salute.  It was a hot day and these guys came out in their uniforms and were so proud.

Tessa Basford, my next door neighbor and one of our City Council.  To her right is one of our State Senators, Chip Rogers.

Laying the wreath to honor those fallen.

Woodstock lost a soldier this year to the war in Iraq, Gary Lee Nelson III, who was only 20 years old.
His name was unveiled on the memorial today.

Talking to some of our veterans.

Gary Nelson's family was at the Memorial Day Celebration.  They were honored along with their son.  It was very sad and very moving.

Saturday Art

On Valentine's Day a patron at our library brought all of us a rose. It was so touching especially because I know she doesn't have a lot of extra money raising two children by herself and also having health issues this year. I think it is a PEACE rose and I put it on my desk in my studio. I just had to start painting it and turned the painting into a "Thank You" card for her. I hope she likes it.

I decided I wanted to make some stamps of local landmarks around our little town of Woodstock. I decided to start with Woodstock City Park. I first sketched a pencil drawing of the gazebo and then placed it face down on the stamping material. I rubbed it several times with a bone folder. You can see how well it transfers.

Here is the finished "Woodstock Gabzebo" stamp.

This is the clock that stands near the gazebo in downtown Woodstock city park.

If you decided to try making your own stamps, be very careful. It is really easy to cut yourself!

ROCKING AT WOODSTOCK CITY PARK

Downtown Woodstock (GA) was rocking tonight with the free Summer Concert Series and the Atlanta Rhythm Section. People were packed in from Hot Dog Heaven down to the Nursing Home! People, chairs, blankets, coolers, kids, dogs and lots of fun! It was a great concert and brings back memories of 1970 and "Doraville"!

Fetch me a Shrubbery!

While trimming my crepe myrtle in the front yard, I noticed Daisy, our almost 16 year old jack russell, carrying around some of the trimmings.  It reminded me of the Monty Python movie when the knights had to fetch some shrubbery!  She was sort of aimlessly walking around with branches stuck in her leash and couldn't figure out why she was getting stuck everytime she turned around.  She's back inside on her chair taking a nap now.
