HONOR - 24 x 18 pastel on sanded paper

Put the finishing touches on my pastel "Honor". I will be entering it into the Southeastern Pastel Society annual juried show.

Toledo, Spain

I did this pastel about a year ago. It was done from a photograph I took while on a trip to Spain. We were in Toledo, Spain for a few days and this was the view out of our window. In the distance you can see the water. Lots of charming little alleyways, windows, and flowers.

Judy Greenberg workshop

Had a great time in the abstract watercolor workshop today taught by Judy Greenberg. Glad to be there after two days of that awful stomach flu!! Here are examples of our work showing texture and the first "pour" of color. Top photo shows Judy "pouring" a layer of watercolor onto her painting.

New watercolor technique

I'm going to a watercolor workshop Wednesday and thought I'd try out the new technique before I go. First you start with a base of gel medium, then lay in watercolor washes. Next, you lift off the whitest whites and add in the darks. Can you see the cow emerging?

Judy Greenberg demo

Judy Greenberg demonstrated her abstract watercolor techniques using gel medium, sedimentary pigments and stamping. I am looking forward to attending her workshop next week.

Composition Workshop

I took a Composition Workshop from Elsie Dresch last week. It was chalked full of info about the different types of compositions and what makes up a good composition. We started making a notebook. I have been working on mine this week by cutting out pictures of paintings to correspond to the different types of compositions like the Suspended Steelyard, Steelyard, Tunnel and Ell to name a few. Here is a shot of my worktable.

I see a few areas I want to correct but otherwise it is almost finished. This scene is from the new National Cemetery located in Canton, Georgia.
