

I painted this purple iris (22" x 30" watercolor) a few years ago. I've been transferring photos from my old desktop computer over to my laptop and found this one that I don't think I have posted before. I remember taking the photo after it rained and capturing all of the raindrops still attached to the blossom. It was fun painting the raindrops. Below is a practice sheet using different colored backgrounds for the water drops. It helps to use a very transparent non-staining watercolor so you can lift off the color to expose the highlight. My irises have finished blooming this year but I have a beautiful bright red daylily blooming now that I would love to paint!
